Independent Construction – Fort Collins, CO

White ranch-style house with large windows, surrounded by a grassy field under a cloudy sky. A deck is visible with stairs leading up.

A full 7,000 sq ft home remodel moves forward through strategic phases: structural changes, mechanical rough-ins, flooring installation, trim and finish carpentry, paint, and exterior upgrades. In this second update, we’re showing the real, behind-the-scenes progress that turns a massive custom renovation from concept into reality.

This post breaks down what’s changed since our first case study and what homeowners can expect during this phase of a whole-home transformation.

In our first post, we introduced the scale of this project:

✔ Major layout changes

✔ Full exterior renovation

✔ New flooring throughout

✔ Custom fireplace, kitchen, and finishes

✔ Redesign of all living spaces

That post focused on planning, demolition, framing, and early installations.

📈 What’s Happening Now: Real Mid-Construction Progress

1. Exterior Brick, Trim & Window Installations

The exterior has taken a huge leap forward. The home now features:

  • Fresh white-painted brick with modern lines

  • All new high-efficiency windows installed throughout

  • Clean fascia, soffits, and gutter integrations

  • Updated grading and egress wells on the basement level

These changes set the tone for a modern mountain-contemporary exterior and dramatically improve curb appeal and efficiency.

2. Stone Fireplace Wall Completed

Modern living room with a white stone fireplace and large windows overlooking a field. Unfinished floor with construction materials.

One of the standout features of this home is the full-height stone fireplace wall visible from every angle of the main living area.

Progress now includes:

  • Completed ledger-stone installation

  • Clean recessed fireplace opening

  • Wall wrapped floor-to-ceiling for a luxury architectural finish

  • Integration with the open-concept room layout

This is a centerpiece transformation that adds structure, warmth, and scale.

3. Major Flooring Installation Across All Levels

Empty room with wood flooring, white walls, and ceiling lights. A ladder is near the window in the back, creating a calm, unfinished feel.

We’ve installed thousands of square feet of new flooring, a huge milestone in any large-scale renovation.

Current status:

  • Basement flooring approaching completion

  • Main level flooring fully installed

  • Stairs and transitions prepped

  • Materials protected under Ram Board during finishing phases

Flooring signals the shift from “construction zone” to “home,” and it sets the visual tone for every room.

4. Trim, Doors & Finish Carpentry Advancing

Wooden sliding door partially open, revealing a room with concrete floor and double doors. Warm light on wood, creating a cozy mood.

Next, the home has moved into precision carpentry:

  • New baseboards throughout

  • Window and door trim installed

  • Clean, modern profiles

  • Interior doors being hung

  • Upper-level railing installed with contemporary black metal balusters

This phase brings shape and refinement to every space.

5. Home Remodel Kitchen Progress: Tile & Cabinetry Set

White kitchen cabinets with marble countertops and blue hexagonal tile backsplash. Sunlit window reveals outdoor scenery. Sparse room setup.

The kitchen is now taking form:

  • Cabinets installed along the main perimeter

  • A gorgeous teal hex tile backsplash completed

  • Countertops set

  • Electrical, plumbing, and appliance spaces roughed in

This is where function begins to meet design.

6. Clean Painting & Surface Prep Throughout

Fresh drywall, primer, and paint continue across all 7,000 sq ft.Every surface is getting its finish coat, and every room is starting to feel like its own defined space.

🔧 What This Phase Teaches Homeowners About Large Remodels

You won't see instant changes, it’s controlled momentum.

The most dramatic changes come from:

  • Finishes

  • Flooring

  • Trim

  • Window installs

  • Exterior refinements

These phases often take longer but create the biggest visual impact.

Multiple crews work in sequence, not all at once.

Flooring, paint, cabinets, and trim each depend on the previous step being perfect.

Quality requires space and time.

A full home remodel, especially one this size, is a layered progression. Every inch gets touched by specialists.

You should always see consistent forward motion.

And that’s exactly what you see in this update: steady, significant progress on all fronts.

🧩 What’s Next?

Coming in the next update:

  • Custom cabinetry installations

  • Lighting fixtures and switches

  • Final kitchen elements

  • Bathroom tiling and vanities

  • Exterior finishing touches

  • Full interior trim completion

  • Final flooring and transitions

  • Start of final clean phase

This home is evolving quickly, and the transformation is becoming undeniable.
